Orlando Bass Fishing Trips

The last few days has seen some really good action out on Lake Jackson. The lily pad fields have really thinned out in a big way since the state sprayed them and this has opened up a few more areas for us to bass fish. Hydrilla is still very healthy out here and so are the bass.

Live wild shiners has of course been a great option for keeping the bass fishing action steady and the guys have been landing some trophy bass as well. Wild shiners have been working best free lined and tossed right to the edges of the lily pads. This is a pattern that has been holding steady now for over a month, and has made many clients very happy.

Tom came back once again, along with good friend Frank and they had a blast out here. Between the two of them they boated right about 20 bass in six hours, along with 2 nice catfish and a huge bowfin. The bass the guys were catching were running from school sized bass to the big gal which was just over 7 pounds. Mix in three bass at an easy five pound a pop, that makes for one great day of Bass Fishing in Florida!

Florida Live Bait Bass Fishing

Live bait bass fishing in Florida can be an absolute blast!. The best live bait to use of course is the wild golden shiner. These shiners can range anywhere in size from as small as four inches to what feels like 2 pounds at times. Winter time down here is a great time to use the wild shiners, as they will trigger some very aggressive strikes from bass and it can also be one of the best ways to catch that trophy bass of a lifetime.

When we get hit here is the south with a cold front, yes we do get them, and out water temperatures dip into the upper 40’s to low 50’s, sometimes bass just don’t want to chase their food. Don’t get me wrong, spinner baits and Strike King Red Eye Shads will still catch bass, as well as Senkos and worms, but to keep that bite steady for my clients we sometimes use wild shiners.

This is the perfect bait to catch some great numbers of bass, and yes you will catch your fair share of those two pound bass like in this video, but you will also stand a much better chance at the lunker bass. Most of the time we are free lining the wild shiners, hooking them thru the lower jaw and out the nostril and just pitching them to the edges of the grass beds or lily pads.

With the cooler water temperatures the bass will generally head to two areas on a lake. The first would be deeper drop offs and the other of course is tight to cover. One of the easiest ways to locate bass along the grass lines is to rig up two rods, one free lined and one with a float and just slow troll along the grass, staying about 2 foot from the grass and just move very slowly. This tactic has been very good for us as it is found us several places where we can then just slide our anchor into the water quietly and catch a ton of bass.

Remember that when the bass are feeding aggressively, hang on to those shiners that have already been hammered, as they will still catch bass for you. Just rig them thru the nose again, pitch them out there and slowly twitch them back to the boat.

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides

Bass Fishing in Florida is still a hook setting bonanza. Sid returned once again for some great bass fishing action out on Lake Jackson here in Central Florida. We started the day out hitting the ramp very early so we were on our first spot just before 7am. Cooler temperatures than the day before and a fog that did not let go of us until just after 10am, looked like it was going to be a tougher day than we had been used to.

We started out on that first spot, which had been great at producing not only some good numbers of bass, but also some pretty good sized bass as well. Today was a day of all wild shiners and the bass did not let us down. Tossing free lined shiners to the edges of the lily pads was the way to go, one thing we did notice was the placement of the shiners today was the big key to catching the bass. Placing the bait a couple feet from the pad yielded little to no action at all, but if they were placed within inches of the pads, the bass played very good for us.

With the wind constantly changing directions on us, the Dig In Anchor system was awesome at holding us in place and allowed us to pin point our casts to the edges with no problem. This was a great bass fishing day for Sid, as he boated not only 21 bass in four hours, but also landed three catfish a pickerel and a big bowfin. Lot of action for Sid today and I got a pretty good work out myself zipping around the boat netting all of his fish today.

I still have a few open dates for December and January while February is booking up fast. We are expecting yet another very busy spawn season as we did this previous season, so book your bass fishing trips soon.

Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing

Kissimmee Chain of Lakes bass fishing has been doing very good for us. We have been focusing on mainly Lake Jackson as it has been producing not only some great numbers of bass, but some good size as well. We did a quick scouting trip out here to check out a few other spots. These spots in the past have produced some great trophy bass for us and have typically reloaded after a few months.

We hit the nail on the head this day. One of my favorite spots was holding a bunch of great bass and the action was pretty steady for us. We did start the morning our using live wild shiners, and as we moved to different areas we cracked out the artificial baits.

Zoom flukes in June Bug seemed to be the hot ticket with the artificial baits. Bass were relating tight to cover and seemed to prefer a mix of coverage. Lily pads with Kissimmee grass close by seemed to be the hot spots. Water temperatures started the day out at 52.7 degrees, yes folks we are in Florida, this has pushed the bass tighter to cover where we have been fishing and has made it much easier to target the bass. Once again we have seem bass with the tell tale sores on the tails from fanning beds and we have started to spot scattered beds around the lake. Spawn is coming!

Central Florida Bass Fishing

Capping of the last few days of bass fishing in Central Florida, the wild shiner bite has been off the hook crazy here. The bass have just been slamming our offerings and the size is getting bigger. We have been seeing more and more bass with sores on the tail end, meaning there is some bed fanning going on and these bass are starting to get some nice bellies.

Artificial baits have been doing pretty good as well. Several nice bass have come over the side of the boat using spinner baits, red eye shad and the best bass was nailed on a swim bait. Corey was working his swim bait nice a slow, actually crawling it along the bottom when his big bass slammed it and gave him one heck of a fight.

He did manage another nice one working the swim bait a little closer to the surface and thru the pads. Bass have been holding tight in a few areas that we have been working, hydrilla and pads being the big key to not only catching good numbers, but also locating the bigger quality bass that everyone loves to catch.

Lake Jackson Bass Fishing

Bass fishing has been holding steady here in Central Florida. Most of our trips have been on Lake Jackson as of late for one good reason. The bass fishing has been off the hook. Even with higher winds the bass have still been playing great for us. Live wild shiners pitched to the edges of the lily pads have been not only producing good numbers of bass, but some good size as well.

This tactic has been producing 30 to 40 bass in a four hour trip. Artificial baits have also been hammering some good bass. Spinner baits have been catching some very good quality bass as well as swim baits. Big bass on swim bait was just shy of six pounds and spinner baits have been popping bass up to five pounds. This cooler weather has really had the bass actively feeding at a steady pace pretty much all day long.

Key factors have been to stay close to lily pads and work the healthier hydrilla. Bass have been holding tight to these areas and aggressively smacking the live and artificial baits. More cooler weather to come, and things are shaping up very nicely for a great bass fishing season.

JJs Magic Dippin Dye

Florida Bass Fishing is an amazing way to make a living. Having been fishing these waters around Central Florida for over 20 years now, I have seen bass slam a lure for years, then like a light switch they just seem to turn off. There will be days when the bass are just simply slamming your lures as they dance in front of them and then there is those day where all you feel is a very light tap on your lure.

Many people will change up lures thinking it’s the lure they are presenting is not what the bass may be wanting. This generally is not the case, if the bass is willing to bump your bait you have sparked his interest in your offering. Now we just need to spice up that lure to make them commit to it.

I myself over the years have tried many different things. The paste sometimes worked, but you had to constantly apply more after so many casts. The gels were nice, but again, you found yourself wasting a lot of valuable fishing time reapplying it, and then you had it all over your hands.

There was one that allowed you to dip it, giving it a garlic scent and this did seem to work pretty good, but once again wasting a lot of time reapplying it, as all it did was put a coat on your lure which just seemed to wash off after a few casts.

Along comes JJ’s Magic. This is not only a dip but a dye as well. The perfect garlic scent and coloring that penetrates the plastic. This has allowed me to fish and not worry about constantly redipping. I have applied this to a lure and let it sit outside for a week and it retained the garlic scent even after a rain storm. The product comes shipped to you in glass bottles with three colors to chose from. Chartreuse, Methylate, Blue and the Clear.

Cross dipping has with a white Zoom Fluke, you can become very creative in the color pattern you produce, or you can just simply dip the tail to add some kick to the color. Bass that had been just tapping the lure or simply mouthing the bait, were now smacking it and holding on. The bottles only cost 4.99 so it is priced very well, give it a try, you won’t regret it.

Dig In Anchor System

As the owner of Florida Bass Fishing Guides and professional bass angler here in the state of Florida, I see a lot of new products come and go. Some hang around a lot longer than they should, simply because of creative marketing. Recently I had a gentlemen contact be about becoming an affiliate for his product. I did a lot of research on this product and decided I wanted more than just an affiliate relationship with this company.

Dig In Anchors is the company, and I now have the anchor system installed on the bow and stern of my Stratos. This is a shallow water anchor system that is very easily installed on any boat. With a simple battery drill I installed both units on my boat in under 30 total minutes, and it was done right at the boat ramp!

Although this is considered a “shallow” water anchor, I have found this works just great with my Florida Bass Fishing trips. Most of our fishing is done in less than 8 foot of water here and with the 10 and 12 foot poles for the anchor system, this has worked great for me and my clients on our bass fishing trips.

Currently I use the eight foot pole for the stern mount and the ten foot pole for the bow mount system. This has made my job much easier just for the fact I no longer have to toss out two anchors to hold the boat in place anymore. The old style anchors have done their job at holding the boat in place when we are fishing with live bait, but the issue with them has always been when you go to pull up anchor, seems like you pull a ton of the lake bottom with you that you will now have to shake off and generally get all over your boat.

This system has also meant that there is no longer that long tangled up rope with the chain on it, that alone can be a nightmare to deal with and also will take up a lot of storage space on your boat. How well does it work? I recently did a trip out on Lake Jackson here in Central Florida. The day started out very nice with calm to no wind to speak of. The spot we were working just kept reloading with bass so I anchored up to hold my spot. Two hours into the day, the wind picked up with gusts to 20mph, and the boat held its position with the Dig In Anchor System.

I had looked into the other systems out there and got sticker shock when I saw the prices for them, and that was not even installed. Some were costing up to 300 to install them with all the wiring and hydraulics and then you have to consider the other hidden never talked about problem. I personally know of someone with the “other” product. Loaded his boat on the trailer down in the keys and made the drive home. He had the remote in his pocket and managed to hit the button, which deployed the anchor, somehow he did not notice this, and of course going down the turnpike no one told him! Needless to say, it chewed up the pole pretty bad.

Dig In Anchors has hit a home run with this product. Never having to worry if the hydraulics fail on the water, no tube standing up in your way at the back of the boat. Now think of this, you have one power pole installed on the back of the boat, what will stop the wind from spinning the front of the boat around? Adding another power pole to the back. You want to spend a couple grand for that or a couple hundred for a product that anyone can install on their own in a matter of minutes? This system is as it says, easy to install and easy to use. Central Florida Bass Fishing

Central Florida Bass Fishing has been going strong this month. Most of our trips have been done on Lake Jackson as of late and this lake has been producing some great numbers of bass, as well as some pretty good sized bass. The lake was getting choked out pretty bad with the lily pads, almost to the point is was limiting the areas we could get to but with the spaying that was done, the pads are disappearing and has opened up a lot more areas to catch these trophy bass out here.

Artificial baits have been doing pretty good. Spinner baits and red eye shads have been getting some very nice quality bass out here. Some of the bass we have started to notice some sores on their under side, classic sign they are starting to fan some beds. We have also caught a few bass that showed signs of filling up with eggs. These bass are starting to get some good sized bellies to them.

Typical day out here, six to eight hour trip has been seeing us boat 20 to 30 bass using the artificial. The most productive artificial bait has been the zoom fluke. The two colors that have been producing the most bass has been june bug with green fleck and the watermelon red.

Live bait fishing out here has been nothing short of awesome. Although many don’t want to spend the usual twenty dollars a dozen for the live bait, we have been using some that has just been slaying the bass out here at a cost of only eight dollars a dozen. Much more cost effective for the angler, and catches the same bass that the high priced shiners catch. Trips with four dozen shiners have been seeing us use the shiners up catching 30 bass sometime in less than 3 hours with the bass ranging in size from two to six pounds. The spawn is just around the corner and it is shaping up to be yet another great bass fishing season.

Central Florida Bass Fishing

Central Florida Bass Fishing has been doing very good as of late. Cooler air temperatures as well as cooler water temperatures have made for some very good bass fishing in Florida. Butler Chain of Lakes has been a great place to bass fish, with the bass starting to school up and move into shallower waters this has made for some very fun action. Live wild shiners have been doing very good out here.

Drop offs are still producing some good numbers as well as some quality size bass. Main areas that have been producing have been the areas with some good weed lines and hydrilla patches that are scattered around the chain.

Artificial lures are doing great out here. Skipping senko type baits and flukes under docks are producing some good numbers and size. Spinner baits and Strike King Red Eye Shads are catching the bass in a big way right now. The bass have been very aggressive hitting these lures as they are now chasing bait fish around as they start to fatten up for the upcoming spawning season.

Main lakes that have been fishing best for us have been Lake Chase, Lake Butler which is the main lake and Lake Tibet. These three lakes have some of the best vegetation on them and they have been holding some of the best action as of late. My trips out here have been producing some good numbers and quality size. Capt. Rob Warfield has also been getting some quality action as seen in these pictures with two youngsters holding some nice bass they caught using artificial lures. Nothing more satisfying than seeing youngsters catching bass, whether it be with live bait or artificial baits, this is what it is all about.

Remember, when you go bass fishing, take your child with you, it’s a great way to spend some quality time together and grow that bond between you and your children. Special thanks to Capt Warfield, who is also my tournament partner. We have been fishing together for over 15 years now, and he helps me out with multi boat trips and corporate trips as well as picking up trips if I am already booked.

Florida Bass Fishing Guides

Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing-Florida Bass Fishing Guides

Florida Bass Fishing GuidesBass fishing on the Kissimmee Chain of lakes has been great! Most of our trips have been artificial bait trip and they have been producing good numbers of bass, 20 to 30 bass in a day, with some good size mixed in.Bass coming in at or just over 5 pounds have been common with the typical schoolie sized bass mixed in to help keep the action steady throughout the day.
Florida Bass Fishing GuidesThe typical trip using artificial baits has been tossing a lot of senko type baits but the bigger bass as of late have been coming on a 7 inch ribbon tail in June bug color. The bass we have been catching have been mostly scattered but have been holding to a steady pattern of holding tight to scattered grass patches and areas of thinned out lily pads.
Red Eye shad and steel shad have been very good at producing some good numbers in open water areas, and ripped thru the scattered hydrilla. We have been tossing some top water plugs, and the Strike King Rage Tail but the bass have not responded too well to these baits as of yet. Water temperatures in the morning have been in the mid 70’s so maybe a few more degrees and they will light up on the top water. We fully expect the top water bite to light up like it did for us last year.
Live bait trips out here have been doing pretty much the same. We have been working mainly areas of 3 to 6 foot of water and slow trolling the shiner about 2 foot under a cork. With more productive spots I have deployed the dig in anchor, which slides in fast, easy and quiet and we have worked over the area really good before moving to the next spot. Key areas with the live bait have been the spots holding more hydrilla than any other type of cover.

Dig In Anchors

The installation of the Dig In Anchor, Stern Mount

Here is a video for installing the stern mount anchor from Dig In Anchors. I installed this on the back of my boat in under 5 minutes with a simple battery drill and even did it at the boat ramp. This system is very cost effective and eliminates the need to for that heavy bulky anchor with chain and rope that always gets tangled up. Plus it stays clean!! No more pulling the lake bottom up with you and having to shake it off before storing. Simple and easy install . Get back to fishing, and not fighting with the anchor! Check back often for more how to videos that we hope will help you not only with Bass Fishing in Florida, but fishing period!

Lake Toho Bass Fishing and Kissimmee Chain of Lakes

Lake Toho Bass Fishing and Kissimmee Chain of Lakes

Folks, we have been having a blast with bass fishing. Waters are cooling down and the bass have been biting. Exciting part is they have been hammering our soft plastics and lipless crankbaits. Today the wind was up some, which spooked off our top water action, or did it? No sir, we worked senko type baits across the top of lily pads and had more than our share of bass explode on our baits.

We worked everything from a buzz bait, which only got blown up on once and missed, to senko type baits, lizards and flukes and mixed in a red eye shad. Had a few areas where we knew were holding bass so I deployed the new anchor system from Dig In Anchors to hold us in place and yes we caught a few in each area we worked.

Drift patterns that have been working for the past few weeks are still holding strong. Slow drift thru and over grass beds and hydrilla have been producing some great bass fishing action on the chain of lakes, Last weeks 10.14 pounder is still holding strong for big bass of this month and the guys have been catching several solid bass in the 4 to 6 pound class. More stained waters the junebug has been the hot ticket and areas with cleaner water we have just been hammering bass on the watermelon Red.

We are seeing more and more action on the surface as of late with these cooler mornings, only thing that kept the top water action off today was the higher winds. No one was complaining though, with 14 bass making it over the side of the boat to make it a very good day on the water.

Lake Toho and Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing

Lake Toho Bass Fishing and Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing

The bass fishing on Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain has been great for us. Live wild shiners of course have always been a good bet to catching some good numbers as well as size, but I gotta tell you folks, we have been slamming some good numbers as well as size with artificial baits.

Our main baits as of late have been a good mix with senko type baits, speed craws, spinner baits, stike king red eye shads, and the one that woke up the sleeping giant the first day of October was the Azuma Shaker Z.

One main area we have been working has a good spam of lily pads with a bunch of scattered grasses and hydrilla and it has been holding a ton of bass. Working the Azuma Shaker Z around the grasses and just above the hydrilla produced some good numbers, as well as this toad of a bass. We had spotted a few other huge blowups in the water but they were just out of casting distance, but I tell ya, they were bass just as big as this trophy bass.

Soft plastics had produced several smaller bass as well as two bass that were four pounds plus, and they fought like champs. The air temperature as well as the water temperatures are finally cooling down and it has been triggering a pretty good feed from the bass. The day started out with the water surface temp right at 76 degrees and made for some good bass fishing. This coming week is looking like much cooler temps over night as well as during the day, and this will only benefit the bass fishing action in a positive way.

Several more runs out on the Kissimmee Chain coming up so check back often for new reposrts and updates.

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides

Florida Bass Fishing Guides-Orlando Bass Fishing Guides

Butler Chain Bass fishing has been holding pretty steady. My main areas of fishing with clients has been on Lake Butler and Lake Down. Steel Shad and Redeye Shad have been producing some good numbers out here mostly in mid lake areas where we have found the grasses offshore. If you’re out there early top water action has been steady before the heat hit, but we have had some mid day schooling action out on Lake Down. Slight breeze is always great, as it seems to keep the bass fishing feeding all day long. Strike King Shim E Sticks and trick worms have been great at producing bass out here.

Capt Rob Warfield covered for me on another trip as I was already booked, and took his trip out on Lakes Chase and Tibet. Working mainly offshore grasses in 8 to 10 foot of water working trick worms, brush hogs and spinner baits they had a great time boating a bunch of bass. The bass had been relating to the outside edges of the grass beds and would follow the baits out before smacking them. Working slow and being patient was the key, other than the couple very aggressive ones that smacked spinner baits, once you located those bass, it was just a matter of picking apart the grass beds and drop offs.

Fall is just around the corner, and that will mean some great bass fishing action with cooler air temperatures and cooler waters. Bass will be up feeding and we expect yet another awesome season.

Lake Toho Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing

Florida Bass Fishing Guides-Orlando Bass Fishing Guides

The middle of September has seen some awesome bass fishing action. We have been working mainly the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes to include world famous Lake Toho, as well as East Lake Toho. The weather seems to have settled some as far as the heat, but I believe that has been mainly due to some breezy days on the water to help cut the heat back.

I will say this, the heat has not seemed to mess with the bite too much at all. Many will say once you hit 10am the bite is shut down and it becomes a one here one there kind of thing, But don’t tell Jimmie and Frankie that. These two guys had what can be called nothing but an awesome time on the water.

We had set our sites on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, which holds some of the best bass fishing around right now, and the waters did not let them down. Jimmie started the day out in our first spot, hitting a smaller, maybe 2 pound bass in the first 5 minutes, using wild shiners. This was the first ever bass that Jimmie had caught, which I was not aware of at the time. We made one move to an area that has been holding quality bass for some time now, and it was game on. Jimmie landed a very solid 4 pound bass, that fought awesome, no jumping with this gal, she just kept diving to bottom and charging the motor, but Jimmie worked her like a champ and got her in the boat, talk about big smiles for this bass he landed, we also managed to get her on film, so be sure to check out the Bass Fishing Videos on my web site.

Frankie, The host for Reel Fishing, had started out the day working artificial lures, but when he saw Jimmie was catching them left and right, decided to switch up to the wild shiners and started catching a few himself. These two guys were a total riot to have out on the water. Non stop catching and the jokes were just flying around.

The guys wanted me to fish along with them, so I joined them buy tossing around a wacky rigged Strike King Shim E Stick and caught a nice 4 pounder and showed Frankie how to use the Strike King Red Eye Shad, 3 casts into showing him, they grabbed the camera and started filming as what turned out to be a nice 5 pounder slammed the baits and started to dance around.

These bass were being caught all the way to 11am, in the heat of the day in shallow waters. The guys had a great time on the water and ended up catching 22 bass and learned a lot about bass fishing in Florida. Looking forward to getting them back out there very soon for some more great action.

Orlando Bass Fishing

Orlando Bass Fishing

Orlando bass fishing has been doing very good the past 2 weeks. Most of the Orlando bass fishing trips have been done on Butler Chain of Lakes. This chain typically does pretty well in the Florida heat simply because of the deeper waters it has. Every one of the 12 lakes out here will have at least one drop off going to at least 20 feet deep, which is a very good area for bass to stack up at times as the water heats up.

Our main targets on this chain as of late have been areas on Lake Down and the main lake, Lake Butler itself. Both of these lakes seem to have the cleanest water on the chain, and both have been seeing some very good schooling activity as of late. Live wild shiners have done good out here, but the heavy hitter has been the artificial baits. Flukes and senko type baits have been very good out here, as well as the trout and fire tiger pattern steel shads.

Lake Down has been very productive out in the mid lake area where there is some good topped out vegetation. Flukes worked thru it has been a very good way to catching some quality bass. Lake Butler has been the same way, fishing the deeper waters and the drop offs has been the ticket to catching the bass. Water temperatures have slowly been coming down, rain mixed with a few days of some good overcast has helped drop water temperatures some and seems to have made the bass much more active.

Forecast for September bass fishing is looking good. Previous years have been productive and we fully expect this year to be no different. With the amount of schooling action we have been seeing, we see no reason why the action will slow down any time soon. Be sure to check out the newest bass fishing video on my site, filmed on Butler Chain on August 30th. It was just one of several bass I caught myself while I enjoyed a day off on the water.

East Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

The last several days have seen some pretty good bass fishing on Lake Toho. Our main target had been East Lake Toho, which has not been letting us down. Action has been remaining pretty steady out here using artificial baits and it does seem that the artificial bait bite has been out producing the live bait.

Main lake has been yielding some good numbers as well as size, Lake Ajay has also been kicking out some good numbers as well on the chain. Senko type baits, flukes and redeye shads have been getting more than their fair share of bass out here. Most of the bass being caught have been coming from along the grass lines in about 4 to 6 foot of water with some flow. Junebug silver fleck and red shad have been the HOT colors to use out here for us.

Mike and Klye had a great time out on East Lake Toho catching bass pretty consistently all day long, with an hour break for lunch at East Lake Fish Camp. Most of their day had been spent working the various canals out here, and the bass played very well for them. Higher winds had forced us into the canals, put with the winds pushing the waters into them, the bass were stacking up in there and we had no problem catching them, boating roughly 20 bass on the day made for a very good trip.

Altho it has been hot out, my new “break for lunch” trips have been a great success with clients. That brief hour long break in the middle of the day has been all we needed to fish a full eight hour trip without getting over heated and still catch bass.

Be sure to also check out my split day trips, fish four hours in the morning, and then finishing off with four hours in the afternoon, yet another great way to beat the heat.

Kissimmee Chain and Butler Chain Bass Fishing

The month of July has seen some good bass fishing. Despite the heat, the bass are still willing to play well take the baits we offer them. Main baits of choice have varied depending on the waters we have been hitting, but two baits have been consistent on all the waters, those being a white spinner bait and the Strike King Redeye Shad.

East Lake Toho has still being holding steady with action in the early morning hours getting very limited top water action, but the redeye shad and white spinner bait have been picking off the bass steadily. When the day heats up, the big ticket has been senko type baits and flukes, worked in and around topped out grasses scattered around the main lake. The 6 to 10 foot range has been the areas that have seemed to hold more bass, and the better quality bass out here.

West Lake Toho has been fishing a lot like East Lake Toho. One big out here though is locating moving water after the rains. These areas will not only hold some good sized bass, but will also hold some good numbers as well. Northern end of the lake seems to be one of the better areas for producing bass as well as a few areas of offshore grasses.

Lake X, as I like to refer to it, is a part of the Kissimmee chain and has been a great place to fish. Bass in the early morning hours have been pretty active on senko type baits and flukes, with a few being caught on the redeye shad. Speed craws and trick worms have also been catching a good amount of bass out here as well. Topped out hydrilla has been the hot spot to be when the sun is up and the heat of the day is in full swing.

Butler Chain is still doing good as well. Our usual dock pattern has gone to the way side as the bass have moved offshore. Most of our fishing has been out in mid lake areas where grasses are just below the surface. Steel shad have been good in these areas as well as the flukes. Flukes were rigged with a small bullet weight and crawled thru the grasses to catch the bass. The hits were not aggressive but the bass were solid. Slow and steady pace will boat bass out here for you even in the heat of the day.

Florida Crappie Fishing

Just wanted to post that i have finally added crappie fishing trips to my web site. Crappie seem to be one of the most forgotten species in the state of Florida. We can catch these great fish year round down here, and when you book a trip with me for crappie, the cost includes all artificial baits as well as live bait, fish cleaned for you at the end of the day and vacuum sealed for freshness if you choose to keep your catch.

This trips are always a blast, and kids love to ctch not only crappie, but bream and bluegill as well.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing and Orlando Bass Fishing

June has been an eventful month for bass fishing. The last half has seen some pretty darn good days of bass fishing.

Lake Toho has been very good in the early morning hours, especially with some top water action. Horny Toads and buzz baits along the grass lines have produced some explosive strikes and some good bass.Redeye Shad and steel shads are still producing some numbers out here as well as the old reliable senko type baits and trick worms.

East Lake Toho has been good. Early morning bite has been the best part of the day here. Scattered grasses through-out the lake has been producing not only some good numbers, but some good size as well. This has been an often over looked body of water, but believe me, this lake is a sleeper. You just need to know how to fish it. Start planning your fall and winter trips out here for split day trips, fishing for four hours, breaking for lunch at one of the two fine restaurants on the lake, then fishing the last four hours.

Butler Chain has been pretty good itself, once again it’s the early morning bite that is the most active. This is pretty much the typical pattern this time of year with the Florida heat. Bass have still been hanging around the outside grass edges and close to drop offs, as well as under the docks out here.

Spinner Baits, Redeye Shads, senko type baits and trick worms have been the main ticket to catching bass. There has been some open water schooling out here but from the lakes we have been on that has been limited and scattered.

Johns Lake has had some good days, and some days where you have to work for your bass. The days you work for them, you just basically move around more than usual, but you will still catch the bass out here. Early morning hours generally see the schooling action in the Deer Island Cut, sometimes it is heavy schooling action, and there are those days where that action is very limited. The show up and are gone quick. Just toss a Carolina Rig and be patient, they are still around.

Great baits have been senko type baits, 7 inch worms, redeye shads and steel shads, remember these bass are chasing smaller sized shad, so for best results you want to stick to baits closer to shad patterns and try to match the size. All too often we hear “ bigger baits means bigger bass” sometimes this is true, but you will catch a lot of bigger bass with French fry type baits as well.

July Heat is now here, but there is still action going on. Best results can be produced in 6 hour trips. Fall is just around the corner and dates will start booking up so check your calendar and jump on board.

Orlando Bass Fishing

Had a 6 hour trip out on Johns Lake today. Morning started out with bass schooling some in the Deer Island Cut. The bite was a little on the slow side with us catching bass here and there. Baits used were senko type baits, trick worms, steel shad and redeye shads.

Water levels were great and the breeze kept everyone on the comfortable side. Most of the bass caught were around isolated patches of grass in more open waters. Even tho they were not as active as we would have liked, the guys caught their bass and had a great time out here.

Bass Fishing Lures

The last few days i have taken some time to slowly work on my designs for my worm and lizard molds. I have fine tuned my senko type lure and have the "fall" rate to where i believe it is perfect. I will slowly start hand pouring my stcok very soon. I do currently have a limited supply of baits, but will be pouring a ton of lures here very shortly and have them up for sale on my web site. These baits have been tested and work awesome.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing, last report for 2009

Lake Toho Bass Fishing
Lake Toho Bass FishingThe end of December proved to be yet another good week of bass fishing on Lake Toho.
Southern end of the lake is still producing some good numbers for us. Live bait has been a big key to catching bass on a consitant basis but the artificial bite is was still producing some good catches.
Most of our time had been spent targeting reeds and scattered patches of lily pads with some pretty good success.
Lake Toho Bass FishingYushi and his son Atsushi had one awesome day out here, not only catching some good numbers, but also some quality bass at a steady pace. Water temperatures were running right around 59 degrees which did have the bass somewhat scattered, but as long as we were within casting range of the reeds and pads with our shiners, the bass played pretty good.
With the artificial baits, Gitem K.O's wacky rigged and twin Liz was the definate way to go. Altho the bite with artificials was more of a light tap and not the wanted aggressive hit, allowing the bass to swim a few extra seconds with your bait was the trick. Keeping track of every cast you made was needed, as these bass would lightly grab the bait and slowly swim away from cover to deeper waters, several times clients have made casts, and did not feel a thing until their bait was within feet of the boat. This is not uncommon, especially when the waters get cold like this.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing. Week ending Dec 25th

Lake Toho Bass Fishing Report
Lake Toho Bass fishing has been doing very good thru the middle of the month of December. Several trips out on Lake Toho have produced some good numbers, and some quality bass.
We did a little live bait fishing, bass responded well to this, but the main action was with the artificial baits. Steel Shad and spinner baits worked well on schooling bass. Schooling bass size was ok, the real catch came with rigging up a fluke with a half ounce weight, tossing it past the schooling bass and very slowly crawling it below the school to catch the quality bass. Scattered hydrilla beds in mid lake have still been producing good numbers.
Key has been to find the small isolated patches. These patches have been holding bass as of late for us. Friars cove has also been holding some quality bass. Gitem Shads, 10 inch worms and wacky rigged Gitem K.Os have been the main baits used to target these bass.
We also had the great pleasure of filming a bass fishing show with Bob Redfern’s Outdoor Magazine Television Series out on Lake Toho this month. We had a great time and got some good footage. All bass caught for the show were caught on Steel Shad and some on live bait. Show should be airing but the end of January 2010.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing week of Dec 12th

Lake Toho Bass Fishing
Lake Toho Bass FishingThe bass fishing on Lake Toho has been great for us the past week. Wild shiners, artificial plastics and steel shad have been producing not only some good numbers, but some size as well.
We have been launching out of the main ramp and making the long run to the south end of the lake.
Lake Toho Bass FishingSome good largemouth action had been coming from Friars Cove.
Working stickups and reeds have been a big key to catching some quality bass. Craws and Gitem KO’s have been the main producers as far as the plastics go. Steel Shad and spinner baits have also been very big, especially the steel shad in the open water areas that we have hit. There has been some steady schooling action on the southern end of Lake Toho, which has kept us going back for.
West side of the lake has also been a good area for us, slowly swimming either flukes or flappin shads thru the scattered grasses have produced some good strikes, another good bet was working a one ounce spinner bait thru the reeds and thinned out grasses. For the most part, the bite has been a pretty aggressive hit.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing report Early Dec 2009

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Lake Toho bassBass Fishing the first part of December started out great on Lake Toho. Three days of bass fishing with Paul Fisler and HM1 Shane Gilley proved to be eventful and a lot of fun.
These guys were catching bass at a good pace every morning, with steel shad leading the way. These bass were in tune in a big way with the shad. The early bite was definitely key to every day, as once the schooling action cooled off, we found ourselves doing some moving around to catch bass. The south end of Lake Toho proved to be the best action.

Lake Toho BassPaul started Day one out, showing me his new spinner bait from Holeshottackle.com, and on the first cast of the day got the hook up. After that we spent the majority of the time catching bass with the shad. We had one main area that we fished every morning with great success, bass played very good and kept the action steady every day. Once this action died off, we moved around working Gene Larew craws catching bass scattered across the southern end of lake toho. Tried some senko type baits but got no action with them, and managed only one follow on a Gambler Flappin Shad. Despite higher winds on Wednesday, we still caught bass scattered on toho, using steel shad, with Shane basically just trolling one behind the boat. For the most part, the bite with soft plastics with a very light one, as Shane’s big bass just picked up the bait and swam towards the boat with it before he realized he had something on the line.

JJ’s Dippin Dye was a big help on the boat as well, with the light bite, I honestly believe this product made a difference, as the first few bass that hit, let go fast that is until we started dipping our baits. Great product, and you only need to dip your plastic once, as this penetrates the plastic and trust me on this, it stays and works!

Johns Lake Bass Fishing report for November 2009

Johns Lake Bass Fishing report for November 2009

November has been a pretty good month for bass fishing on Johns Lake. We have had several trips out on Johns Lake and  for the most part of the month there is been consistent schooling action going on. Deer Island Cut is usually the best bet for the schooling action first thing in the morning, but as we witnessed on a trip with clients, who were fishing for strictly pan fish, the schooling action can kick in just about anywhere on this great body of water.

Spinner baits and blade baits have been the best producers out here and usually in wide open waters. Mid lake seemed to be one of the best areas to keep a consistent catching action going on. Docks had been holding limited amount of action skipping wacky rigged Gitem K.O’s  and Gene Larew craws.

We did notice a big drop in the bite when we got hit with a very good cold front for Thanksgiving and word from the dock was this cold front really turned on the crappie bite. Schooling action on Johns Lake will with no doubt continue through March as usual with some five plus pounders coming out of these schools of bass.
With the major spawn just around the corner now, we fully expect another great season on Johns Lake throwing everything from 10 inch worms to swim baits again. With water levels up, and tons of flooded timber, bass will have all the cover needed so we expect to see some bass beds in some hard to work areas, this will make for yet another great action packed season.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing Report Nov 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides
Lake Toho Bass FishingThe first half of November we spent a lot of time on Lake Toho doing some scouting and checking out lake conditions. There is a lot of matting out here and if you hit the right ones, you can catch some good numbers and size out here right now. Water temps are finally down, in the upper 60’s on the days we hit this great lake.

A few of the days we hit Lake Toho the winds were up some, so we focused on areas where we had a push coming thru cuts in the matting, and the bass were there and played pretty good for us. We had a good spinner bait bite going on as well as a wacky rig bite.
Open water areas that were holding bass produced pretty good with the Steel Shad as well as the spinner bait. Silver steel shad and a 1 ounce spinner bait seemed to be the most productive lures for us and bass seemed to be pretty aggressive when they hit these lures.
Lake Toho Bass FishingNorthern end of the lake seemed to be the most productive area, with a few coming out of Gobblets Cove and a few scattered from the southern end.
Lake Cypress also seemed to be a good option, as we made a few runs down there and always managed to catch bass down there, with very little pressure on the days we were there, I think we may have seen 4 other boats there on the days we made the run.
Check back often as we will be adding more to this report for the last half of the month, with several trips coming up for lake toho. Also be sure to check out the bass fishing videos, as 2 more have been added from Lake Toho.

Lake Toho, Johns Lake and Butler Chain Bass Fishing Report Oct 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Report

The month of October has seen some very good bass fishing action here in Orlando.
Johns Lake has seen some good schooling action in the early morning hours with us catching them on steel shad, gitem shad and curly 7’s.
Most schooling action has been in the Deer Island Cut with some action coming mid lake. Waters are up and bass have new feeding areas due to this, so some of the more common haunts have not produced as well as in the past. Making adjustments to your normal fishing patterns will make a big difference in what you catch, and how much you catch.
Grass beds and offshore submerged hydrilla have been a huge key to success in keeping the action going steady during the day. Top water action is here!  Gitem toads and torpedoes getting some good action.
Butler Chain has been pretty typical with the action coming mostly on wacky rigs skipped under docks. We have gotten on a good spinner bait bite as well along with rattle traps and c-rigged gitem warlocks. Lakes Butler and Down have been very good to us especially in deeper waters, working drop offs has seemed to be the spot as well as areas with sunken trees, as the bait fish have been stacking up in these areas pretty good as of late.

Lake Toho has been doing good, with a few runs out there lately steel shad have done very good in open waters, as well as working along hydrilla beds and grass edges. Toads and 10 inch worms have been great coming across topped out hydrilla as well as thru scattered grasses.

November is shaping up to be a great month for bass fishing. Temperatures, water and air are cooling down, making it much nicer to fish than the hot summer months, and with the cooler waters, bass are getting much more active. Live bait bite should be good as usual, and we should have some good top water action as well. Schooling action is typically good in November and we fully expect it to carry on right thru the end of the year. Just take a look at the pictures from previous Novembers and this is what you can expect to happen on any give cast. This is also the time to really start considering that Crappie trip, slabs will be plenty and makes for a very exciting time on the water as well as bass fishing.

Johns Lake and Butler Chain Bass Fishing Report Sept 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides
September has seen some great fishing for us. We had spent several days on Johns Lake and Butler Chain, as well as once again mixing things up by doing some saltwater trips in Port Canaveral and Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.

Freshwater trips have been with artificial baits, mostly using Gitem Curly 7’s and Gitem K.O’s. Main colors of choice have been Florida Grass and Green Pumpkin, steel shad has been a very good producer as well when we have had to hit deeper waters for our catch. Butler Chain had been pretty steady working docks skipping a wacky rig K.O under them, with water levels up, the number of docks that we are unable to skip under have dwindled, but the ones you can get under have still been producing. Lakes Chase and Tibet have done well with the steel shad at the mouths of the canals and around drop offs, working areas in 10 to 16 foot of water.
Johns Lake has seen some schooling action, although the days we were there it was limited, they would surface and be gone within 15 minutes. Spinner baits worked thru the vegetation, scattered grasses and off shore hydrilla, has been a good bet at catching some quality bass, 7 inch worms worked thru thicker grass, slowly swimming them along the top of the slop has produced some very good strikes. Like Butler Chain, Johns Lake is up, and ramp is flooded, so be ready to wade the walkway to get to your boat after launching it.
Pan fish, brim and bluegill have been doing good on red wigglers and have hit fairly good tossing beetle spins both at Johns Lake and Butler Chain. Crappie have been scattered, but when you locate them, the size has not been too bad, with some coming in close to 2 pounds, bigger ones seem to be coming from Johns Lake, and mainly in deeper waters.
Orlando Bass FishingSaltwater runs have been nothing short of a total blast, Port Canaveral has had the best mix for us, catching snapper, jacks, blues and a few trout. The Wildlife Refuge has be super. We managed to catch a wide range of fish out here to include snapper, trout, a few small reds, and Erik capped off the trip by catching a very nice 22 inch Triple Tail, yet again, another first for him, great Job Erik!
We actually ended the month with our first cold front, or should I say “cool” front so maybe it’s a sign like last year, waters will cool down sooner turning on yet another season of some good top water action. Water temps for the most part have hung in the mid 80’s with the consistent rains we have gotten which has helped to maintain a good bite for the most part of the summer. October is shaping up to be yet again another fabulous month for bass.

Johns Lake and Butler Chain Aug 2009 Bass and Saltwater fishing Report

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides
flounderAugust we did a little switch up, we did some fishing on Johns Lake and Butler Chain and had some pretty good trips on both bodies of water. Bass for the most part were holding tight to cover after we had some early morning schooling action on both bodies of water. Gitem curly 7’s in Florida grass and junebug seemed to be the baits that were on fire for us.
snapperThe switch up comes with us doing several saltwater trips which have been producing some great fishing action with us catching a wide range of species. Summer time has always been a great time for some serious saltwater fishing and as usual the fish have responded with every run to the coast. Port Canaveral has been one of our favorite areas to fish saltwater and our runs out there have been producing some good grey snapper, mutton snapper, blues, flounder a few trout and some slot redfish.
snapperLive shrimp has been the main bait to keep the action steady and the rods bending, but the DOA Shrimp and the steel shad have had their moments out there catching the reds and the trout for us. Shrimp rigs we have been using a 1/0 circle hook with a split shot weight around docks and bridges to get our catch, with us catching between 30 and 40 per trip, this makes for a very good day of fishing.

If anyone is interested in saltwater trips, just send me an e-mail or call as this action will remain steady thru the rest of summer.

Butler Chain and Johns Lake Bass Fishing Report July 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Guides

Orlando Bass Fishing GuidesJuly bass fishing has been good for us here in Orlando. Johns Lake as well as Butler Chain have been fishing pretty good, especially with artificial lures. Johns Lake the waters are up considerably which has opened up a lot of areas for the bass to get cover. Grasses have been a major key we it comes to catching them consistently. Swimming worms across the grasses have produced some great explosions on the surface, as well as catching some quality bass.
Orlando Bass Fishing GuidesButler Chain has been fishing as expected, with some top water action scattered around the chain and skipping under docks, the ones you can still skip under anyways, as the water is up! Gitem K.O’s have been a great producer on both Johns Lake and Butler Chain, as well as Curly 7’s in Florida Grass and Green Pumpkin.

Private waters have been just absolutely off the hook with fishing. Bass have been schooling pretty steady in deeper waters, where steel shad have been very effective at catching them. Drop shot has worked to some degree, but a Long A has been one of the better options here.
Afternoon showers have helped to keep water temperatures down and stable which has in turn helped to keep the fishing action steady throughout the day.
Remember we are also booking crappie trips again during the fall and in years past we have slammed some good crappie up to 2 ½ pounds! We do a limited number of these trips so it won’t interfere with our busy bass season so book your crappie trip soon!

Butler Chain and Johns Lake Bass Fishing Report June 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Report
Orlando bass fishingThe month of June has seen some good bass fishing action on both Butler Chain and Johns Lake.
Johns Lake has been good in the early morning with some good schooling action in the cut, as well as some in mid lake areas where hydrilla is present. Water levels are great out here with all the rains we have been getting, which in turn has made one of my favorite patterns very successful, and the is dock fishing! Skipping Gitem K.O’s under docks, as well as Bitsy Jigs have produced some good action as well as some good bass. As the heat of the day comes down on us, 10 inch worms worked in deeper waters, where grass and or hydrilla are present have kept the action steady.

Orlando bass fishingButler Chain has held pretty steady for us for the month of June. Again dock fishing has been a strong pattern for us, with a few days where the bass have seemed to disappear on us, we have found them deep in the slop. Under docks has been the Gitem K.O’s and Warlocks, when the bass have moved off the docks on us, we have tossed the Gitem Shad or Curly 7’s to the back of the grass or lily pads, and slowly swam it back out to get some good blow-ups and some solid hook ups.

Orlando bass fishingWe have had some days with a very light bite, you had to really keep an eye on your line and watch it, as some bass were just picking up our baits and slowly swimming them right back to us, we have made a slight adjustment to this, we added JJs Dippin Dye to our boat, and let me tell you, we had a day where the bite was soft, and we dipped the baits and got slammed!! This stuff really worked great for us, you can find a link for them on my home page in the Bass Fishing News box.

July we are expecting more of the same, early morning bite should still be productive with live bait or artificial bait. Even though we are in full swing of summer, with it getting pretty hot, the bass have still been playing pretty good for us, and once again as in years past, it seems the bigger bass have still wanted to show their faces in the heat of the day, all this requires is placing the bait in the right spot, which is generally tight to the cover, under the docks, or in the slop!
Bassfishingfl.com

Butler Chain and Johns Lake Bass Fishing Report May 2009

Orlando Bass Fishing Report
bassThe month of May has seen some very good bass fishing action. Butler Chain has been producing some quality bass with a good majority of them coming from either under docks or the outside edges of the docks. Whacky rigged Gitem KO’s have been the best way to catch them under the docks, the slower fall of this bait helps keep it in the strike zone just long enough for the bass to hit it.
Working grass beds with the Gitem Curly 7’s and Curly 10’s has produced some more good bass for us, with the main lakes that have produced for us having been Lakes Tibet, Chase, Blanche and Sheen.
bassJohns Lake is still fishing the same and still one of my favorite lakes to fish. Some early morning top water action can be worked as long as you arrive early enough. Generally as the sun starts coming down the cut, the activity starts to pick up, first half of the month the top water bite was a quick bite in this area, usually lasting about a half an hour. From there we have generally worked the main body of water out in the middle working the Steel Shad and picking off some good bass.
This month has brought us a ton of rain, which was badly needed, water levels have been coming up very nicely on both Johns Lake and Butler Chain, this will change patterns some as the bass now have new areas to roam for food with some fresh vegetation now in the waters, we have been picking more bass off in much shallower waters due to this. Any shade of a watermelon color has been the main producing color as well as the Gitem Red Bass, if you have these colors on your boat, your sure to catch some bass.
tarpongrouperWe added a new twist to the fishing arsenal the last few days by getting back into saltwater fishing again. For years I did a lot of saltwater fishing but strayed away with my main focus staying on bass fishing, with the summer months now upon us, the saltwater fishing has been picking up very nicely and we have been catching a lot of good fish.
We just got back from 4 days down in Miami doing a combination of things, part one of our trip was to target some peacock bass, although they did not play very well for us, due mainly to constant rain, we did manage to catch some good one. Best part was when I had my best friend Erik out on the boat and in the same body of water, he not only caught his first ever Peacock Bass, but he also boated his first ever Jack, and the kicker fish was his first ever Tarpon! I think this will be a trip Erik will talk about for years. This was all done on canals around the Miami Airport.
From there we headed to Biscayne Bay and what a blast we had, catching a bunch of Jacks, snappers and I landed a nice red grouper. We spent a lot of time fishing bridges and grass flats, as the weather did not allow us to venture thru the cuts or around the cuts to the Atlantic Ocean as storms offshore kept the waters churned up just a little too much.
redfishpeacock bassThe next few months as summer heats up for us, we still fully expect a good bass fishing season and will be mixing in some saltwater runs for some more bull reds like Charles caught while we filmed a show for Reel Fishing, Charles managed to catch two bull reds, one on his first cast, again, it was another first, as Charles had never caught a redfish before, and he ended up catching two, one just over 40 inches and the other was I believe 35 inches.
I want to thank two of my main sponsors, Gitem Bait and Deep South Fishing Rods, the combination of these two companies have made my job a lot easier supplying me with quality baits and rods, please check them out, you will be very impressed with the quality and pricing.
